Activities at milani
Fishing
Laura Creek is a permanent creek featuring deep pools and small rapids. Because Milani is off the beaten track the stream isn’t over-fished and it’s a great place to teach the kids the basics of trout fishing.
Milani is just 5 hours from Brisbane or 7 hours from Sydney, 26 km off the New England highway
The fishing season opens on the NSW Labour day weekend in October and closes on the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June. Fly fishing enthusiasts as well as spinners or worm users (we have a worm farm) will all enjoy fishing Laura Creek. The stream provides an easy walking bank in most places, or there are several places where you can drive to favoured spots for the less mobile.
We are a gold agent for fishing licenses. Trout fishing regulations brochures are provided in each cabin.

Bush walking
There are plenty of walking trails around the Milani bush set aside for conservation. Wildlife and birds abound. You can follow some of the marked trails or Lynne can guide you to several very different ecosystems, each with its own distinctive flora. The natural undergrowth of flowering shrubs and trees provide a safe home for a vast array of small birdlife. The rocky hilltops provide isolated nesting spots for the larger birds including eagles and channel-billed cuckoos. Plants, birds and animals (echidnas, wallabies, kangaroo, possums) can be enjoyed in their natural state. At Platypus Cabin you’re likely to catch a glimpse of our platypus. There's 8000 acres to explore so pack the binoculars, the camera and the bird book and we guarantee you will be rewarded. We are happy to talk about our sustainable agricultural management system or geology or history if you are interested. We have an old molybdenum mine. |
Bush walks range from easy to challenging. Get an information brochure with a mud map.
Pilots: we have special deals available for accommodation and meals. |
