TroutFest is over for another year and the fishing season at Milani has begun well with good fish caught in Laura Creek despite the earlier drought.
Trout caught over the opening weekend ranged from 30cm to 45cms. It was lovely to hear the stories after so much worry that there may not be fish around but they have obviously survived the dry.
This year's trout stocking fry should be ready for the next season as conditions are perfect for growing this year with the return of our stormy weather keeping the stream in good order.
The start of the season has seen good numbers of fish caught in Laura Creek at Milani (15 and 19 by two fishers on opening day).
Most fish have been around the 35cm mark but they are easy catching and plenty of choice. The one below was caught by a visitor from the Hastings Club during the Guyra TroutFest.
Guyra TroutFest is on again over the October long weekend bigger and better with more activities in the school holidays. Great workshops for kids on Friday, Main Street Markets with food and wine tasting and entertainment on Saturday, plus art exhibition, museums, open gardens, train rides, fishing competitions and a giant fishing gear raffle. Presentation Dinner Sunday.

You will need to type in the full address http://www.milanitroutcottages.com for a while until Google etc catches up with our new location. Please leave us a comment and tell us what you think. A reminder: the fishing is the best in 20 years in our estimation.
I forgot to say the fishing is great with the stream in excellent condition. You can see the fish rising almost any time of the day at present.
We had a wonderful weekend with perfect weather and great guests. Our family in the Trout Cabin enjoyed their first trout fishing experience and hooked a small trout. The children really enjoyed our bushwalk to the mine and then damper and watching Wal work the sheep with our kelpie Jess. We enjoyed ourselves too with Wal demonstrating how to whirl the billy while the damper cooked. Our other guests who have been returning for may years had a very successful fishing weekend with over 50 fish caught and released. Many of them were small but they also caught three over 40cms.
We will add items of interest about the fishing, the birds, what's in flower and the weather as well as any events or special offers we are planning. We will also keep you informed about what is happening around the region if you are planning a trip to our part of the world. Remember Guyra now has its Spring Troutfest to celebrate the opening of the trout fishing season on the long weekend in October.
Of most importance to those who are regulars is that we are now providing linen and towels in both cabins. This will save you some packing space. Let us know your thoughts.
Wal and Lynne are your hosts and have been welcoming guests to Milani for over 30 years. They both love the bush. Wal likes to try his hand at fly fishing and photography while Lynne enjoys being a birdo , wildflower spotting, art and gardening.
